The two songs, composed in 2007, are among the composer's most popular and most frequently performed lieder, although especially the “Song Nr. XXI”, the wail of a disappointed lover, is very complex and multi-layered, perhaps comparable to an operatic scene, as the composer's website says. Subtly alluding to the playfully enjambment rhymes of the poem "Wishing you well" the composer creates a music of folksy, dance-like swaying 5/8 rhythms. Both songs have a so-called „durchkomponierte” text-treatment, with a virtuoso, picturesque, atmospheric piano accompaniment. The Csokonai-songs are dedicated to the composer György Selmeczi, the elder master and fellow composer, the distinguished pianist who played the piano accompaniment at the premiere.
