The song cycle with the playful title Eight Golden was composed on the occasion of the 2017 János Arany Memorial Year – the name of Arany literally means “gold” – to the poems of the 19th century Hungary poetic giant, respected as a poet of the most versatile and copious language. The poems represent the introverted, contemplative, self-ironic tone characteristic for the elderly poet, with acerbic, sarcastic, often barely perceptible humor about the passing of time, creative doubts, and old age. The songs with piano accompaniment are recommended mostly for medium-range voices.
